RECRUITING SALES PERSONNELS

RECRUITING AND RETAINING THE BEST SALES PERSONNEL

Recruiting Sales individuals ought to be a continuous and ceaseless process. You may not presently be in need of them but you ought to be recruiting for sales personnel. Since sales is such a basic part to every organization, you should continually be on the lookout for top sales talent.

The greatest challenge for most organizations in recruiting sales individuals are:

  • Where to get great sales personnel?
  • How to pay them?
  • How to keep great sales individuals once found?

Discovering Good Sales individuals

As stated earlier, you may not necessarily hire, but you should continually be on the lookout for great sales personnel. You ought to have a recruitment strategy set up to provide you with a constant flow of qualified sales personnel to interview. They can originate from various sources:

  • Employee Referrals
  • Sales Recruiters
  • Occupation Postings On Your Website
  • HR Department
  • Industry Conferences and Events.

It is best to utilize a couple if not these sources to discover sales individuals so when an opening comes up, you will have the capacity to fill the activity rapidly.

How Do I Pay Sales People?

One of the major reasons sales sales individuals don’t work well or don’t remain in an organization is the sales compensation plan. If you pay a sales individual too little, they’re not happy, too much and the organization is not.

Here are a couple of things to remember when preparing your sales compensation plan:

  • What is the expected level of pay for a sales individual in your industry and what sales volume is important to accomplish this wage?
  • Is the compensation plan attached to net sales or gross benefit?
  • Much of the time, it isn’t advisable to pay commission of over 20% of gross benefit (this may differ by industry and item). Any more than this and you are paying excessively.
  • How does your sales compensation plan contrast with different firms in your industry?
  • Will sales dispatched be uncapped or restricted?

These are only a couple of the issues that can come up and in the event that you don’t have the responses to any of the questions above, it might be an ideal opportunity to review your pay structure for your sales team.

Retaining Sales Personnel

You’ve recruited and employed an extraordinary sales individual. You’ve invested a considerable measure of energy, cash and assets to discover this person, now what? How will you ensure that they will be effective and remain with your organization for years to come?

A common mistake is to employ a sales personnel and expect that they have contacts that can get enormous sales. In reality, most sales personnel require help to be effective. This is what your organization needs set up with a specific end goal to guarantee an effective sales personnel:

  • A good sales manager – A major reason sales individuals leave or don’t satisfy desires is they have nobody to depend on to mentor them, coach them and help accomplish their objectives
  • On boarding process – What happens when this individual begins? Who is in charge of showing them about the organization, items and administrations? What sort of help is accessible? What sort of preparing will be finished? These are extremely essential strides to guaranteeing achievement.
  • Sales Training and Coaching – Tiger Woods utilizes a mentor not on the grounds that he doesn’t know how to swing a golf club. He utilizes a mentor to master his swing and enhance his execution. Sales is the same. Indeed, even experienced sales individuals require updates and refreshers on the most proficient method to approach new business and how to move potential customers along in the sales procedure. Putting resources into continuous training and improvement will go far to securing more business.

Great organizations should continually be on the lookout for top sales individuals. When you have discovered them, be prepared to train and retain them.

WHY A SALES REPRESENTATIVE IS HIGHLY SOUGHT FOR IN NIGERIA

WHY A SALES REPRESENTATIVE JOB IS ON HIGH DEMAND IN NIGERIA

A sales representative is one who represents the company by negotiating on behalf of the company. He helps in promoting and selling the company’s goods and services to businesses, organizations, government agencies, etc. A sales representative is very critical to an organization as he promotes and markets the products for them. He is the intermediary between the manufacturer or wholesaler and the final consumer.

For an organization to sell its products or render its services, the buyer needs to be convinced of the authenticity or reliability of that product. Hence the need to hire a sales representative to bridge the gap between the organization and the buyer.

Here are some of the reasons a sales representative is highly sought for in Nigeria:

For Feedback:

After writing an examination, we often wait in ease or tension for the results to be released. We all want to know how we fared in the exam. Getting a feedback from consumers helps the company know how it is faring and helps increase its performance.

To Develop Relationships:

A relationship is a key aspect of selling a product. You can’t sell a product to someone you have no relationship with. Sales representatives make contacts with the consumers of the company’s product to sell a product to them.

For improvement:

A negative feedback gotten from the consumers of the company’s product could help them correct their mistakes. This will invariably improve the company’s products and services. This is very important to an organization because, the more improved your products are, the more sales you are likely to make.

A sales representative’s importance cannot be over emphasized as they help in generating feedback for improvements on the company’s product. They work with customers to find out what they want, create solutions and make sure the process is smooth.

HOW I BECAME A MANAGER AT NESTLE BY GODSENT IMION

HOW I BECAME A MANAGER AT NESTLE BY GODSENT IMION

Godsent Imion is a Field Sales Manager in Nestle Nigeria who recently won the award of Best Field Sales Manager in Nigeria. Assist to Hire interviewed him and he shares his recipe for success and career plans.

Please tell us about yourself and where you come from.

My name is Godsent Imion, I am from Edo state. I joined Nestle in 2007. I have spent 10 years in Nestle. Within Nestle, I have worked in various fields before sales. I started in Supply Chain, I was in Supply Chain for a few years before moving to sales.

Are you married?

Yes, I am married with four children

What is your Educational Background?

I am a graduate of Economics from Lagos State University. I also have an MBA in marketing specialisation from the University of Lagos.

How were you able to climb the career ladder?

Flexibility and being open to change. Being ready to make changes and the best career decisions for your future. My advice is when you are in a situation where you need to make career changes, be ready to go for it. I started working as a production planner in the factory, where we planned the production of unfinished goods and purchasing of raw materials.

At some point in my career, I needed to do something different and then took up an interest in sales and made that change. You have to be focused and keep giving your best.

What award did you win?

I won an award for best Field Sales Manager for 2016 out of 100 field sales managers in the territory. I won the Lagos branch and also the overall prize, Pan-Nigeria.

What are your future career plans?

Growing my career within sales.  To be a regional sales manager and progress to Head of Sales one day.

What advice do you have for Nigerian youths looking to start a career in sales?

Nothing comes easy. It is about starting somewhere first. If you are rigid on where you want to work, and what you want to do, you might not get it. Sales is interesting, it is challenging. Sales is about driving targets and it comes with a lot of pressure. It’s not something you just wake up one morning and decide to become a sales person. Interest and determination are essential to becoming a sales person.

Geographical mobility is also important. The willingness to work outside of your comfort zone. There are a lot of young people who say they don’t want a job in the north. If you have that kind of mindset then a sale job is not for you. You need to ask yourself these questions, am I flexible enough? Am I willing to adapt to changes? Am I geographically mobile? Am I ready to relocate and move around the country?

What career advice do you have for Nigerian youths looking to become managers in an organisation?

Be ready to learn, be open to ideas, and work hard. Patience is important to grow in an organisation. A lot of young people are not patience enough to spend time in one organisation. They want to go job-hopping. Job-hopping works for some but not for everybody. At the end of the day, you’ve worked in five different places in ten years and there’s really no progression.

It also depends on the person in terms of what your career aspirations are? If you are looking at a managerial position in a company, it depends if the company is a right fit for your career growth as well as and how much you are ready to put into the organisation by adding value. That will figure how quickly you will move on in your career.

Thank you for interviewing with Assist to Hire and we wish you the best of luck in your future career endeavours.
